Biography

Jennifer Lynn Alvarez received her degree in English Literature from UC Berkeley.  She writes teen thrillers and middle-grade fantasy novels. Her latest thriller, LIES LIKE WILDFIRE, is based on her real-world experience with devastating wildfires.  She now lives in the Nashville area with her husband and more than her fair share of pets.  Find her online at jenniferlynnalvarez.com.

Jean Alicia Elster
Biography

A former attorney, Jean Alicia Elster is the award-winning author of numerous books for children and young adults including How It Happens, The Colored Car, Who’s Jim Hines? and the “Joe Joe in the City” series.  Her essays have appeared in Ms., World Vision, Christian Science Sentinel and Black Child.  She was awarded a 2017 Kresge Artist Fellowship in Literary Arts from the Kresge Foundation and three residencies at the internationally acclaimed Ragdale Foundation.

How It Happens
Book: HOW IT HAPPENS; Author: Jean Alicia Elster

How It Happens follows the story of Dorothy May Jackson.  Born in Tennessee in 1890, Dorothy May was the middle daughter of Addie Jackson, a married African-American housekeeper at a white boardinghouse, and Tom Mitchell, a commanding white attorney from a prominent family.  Through three generations of African-American women, Elster intertwines fictionalized adaptations of the defining periods and challenges—race, miscegenation, sexual assault, and class divisions--in her family's history.

J. EDWARD GORE

J. Edward Gore
Biography

J. Edward Gore, aka "Jimmy," grew up in Elizabethtown, Ky.  He was in the first graduating class of Central Hardin High School and attended Severns Valley Baptist Church.  He completed a year at Elizabethtown Community College before transferring to the University of Kentucky, where he received his Bachelor of Science and later his Doctorate of Medicine.


He currently lives outside of Nashville, TN with his wife, two kids and a goldendoodle.  He works at Vanderbilt Rheumatology Cool Springs.

Michael Regina has been drawing comics since the third grade, and his passion for art and storytelling has stayed with him his whole life.  He studied painting and drawing at the University of North Florida.  Michael is also the creator of the Webtoons.com featured comic Adamsville.  When he’s not making comics, he loves fishing, rooting for the Jacksonville Jaguars, and spending time with his family.  They all live in Jacksonville, Florida.

A. G. Roberts
Biography

A.G. (Amanda) Roberts writes books for children, young adults, and those who are young at heart. Her stories are imaginative, entertaining, and written with language and situations which are family friendly and read-a-loud friendly.


She lives in Tennessee and works in higher education as an advisor and adjunct professor. She has a varied educational background and has earned a Bachelor of Science, two Master of Arts, a Master of Science, and a doctorate degree.

Biography

After a long career in dance, Lynn Slaughter earned her MFA in Writing from Seton Hill University.  She is the author of the newly released DEADLY SETUP; LEISHA'S SONG, an Agatha nominee, a Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards medalist, and an Imadjinn Finalist; WHILE I DANCED, an EPIC finalist; and IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN YOU, a Silver Falchion finalist.  She serves as the President of Derby Rotten Scoundrels, the local chapter of Sisters in Crime.
